Sanitary Sewer Overflow Reported on September 13, 2023 at 1300 Metropolitan Avenue

At 2:06 p.m. September 13, Water Pollution Control (WPC) staff were informed of sewage being released from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons Camp Lift Station. The sewage from the lift station was flowing into a tributary to Three-Mile Creek. WPC staff responded to the call and posted creek-contaminated signs along the tributary to Three-Mile Creek. The Bureau of Prisons staff reporedt that the overflow happened from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., releasing approximately 5,000 gallons of sewage. Bureau of Prisons staff are collecting samples of the creek. They will also have the creek cleaned and inform City staff when E. coli bacteria levels are back to normal in the creek. Affected areas are from the south side of Metropolitan Avenue to Kiowa Street between 14th Street and 16th Street. City staff asks residents to stay away from this area until E. coli bacteria levels are tested at normal levels from water samples.
