Sanitary Sewer Overflow Reported on January 31, 2022 at 1124 Shawnee Street

At 9:45 a.m. January 31, 2022, Water Pollution Control (WPC) staff was informed of sewage running from a private clean out into a storm catch basin.  WPC staff responded to the call and determined that sewage was, in fact, leaking from a private lateral from the address at 1124 Shawnee Street.  This caused the sanitary sewage to run into a catch basin along the north side of Shawnee Street.  City staff made contact with the owners of the building to inform them of this bypass.  City staff used containment socks to help control the bypass until plumbers could get to the area and clear the line.  Bypass of system ended at 11:53 a.m.  City staff cleaned area of bypass to the storm catch basin.  WPC estimated 30 gallons of wastewater was released from the system.  The affected areas will be from the 1200 block of Shawnee Street to the 1100 block of Shawnee Street.
