(Please see bottom of the page for all PDF Documents)

Who:  City of Leavenworth Establishments

What:  The City of Leavenworth’s Building Inspections Office continues to oversee a Grease Trap/Interceptor Inspection and Maintenance Program as part of our effort to reduce the buildup of grease and corresponding backups in our wastewater collection system.  The City updated our Grease Trap/Interceptor Ordinance No. 8201 (Ordinance Amending Division 5, Chapter 46, Regulating and Permitting the Operation of Facilities Producing Grease-Laden Waste and Service Providers for Grease Interception Devices (December 16, 2022), and as a result, the City Commission approved a plan that will include an annual Grease Trap/Interceptor Permit that will be issued to each establishment.

When: Implementation of this program has begun
First permit should be obtained before April 30, 2023
Permits will be valid through April 30 of each year and will need to be renewed on an annual basis.

Where:  City of Leavenworth

Why:  Inspection and proper maintenance of grease trap/interceptors will reduce the amount of grease that builds up in the sanitary sewer lines and will result in a reduction in the number of instances where sanitary sewer overflows into homes, yards, or streets.

Additionally:

  • The program will include requirements for annual inspections to be performed by a registered service provider.  The permit holder will also be required to provide copies of maintenance records for the previous year.
  • Each establishment will provide the City of Leavenworth’s Building Inspections Office with the name and contact information for their registered service provider.
  • An inspection by a registered service provider is required within 60 days of the issuance of the first permit for a facility. Yearly inspections will be required within 60 days prior to permit expiration for permit renewals.
  • The permit fee is $25 - payable in the City Clerk’s Office or online when you email the permit application to permits@firstcity.org (there will be a 2% upcharge fee for using the website).

There will be fines for operating the devices without a license and not maintaining the devices in proper working conditions.
