Food Truck Pilot Program 2024

Logo of Leavenworth shows a covered wagon and set of cattle pointing left in in front of green grass and blue sky.

The City of Leavenworth will begin a food truck pilot program on May 1 to increase activity and food options in the downtown. Local businesses within the downtown zoning district can apply for a permit to reserve adjacent on-street parking spaces for a food truck. Permits can be requested for a single day or recurring days. The program will run for six months from May 1 to October 31.  Permits will be reviewed and approved on a first come, first serve basis, with a total of seven permits available.

Applications to participate in the pilot program are below.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I’m in the downtown zoning district? The City of Leavenworth’s GIS website allows a business to type in their address and check the box for “Plan Zone” and “Zoning_Current.” Buildings in the Central Business District (CBD) will show up in red.

I am located on the one-way portion of Delaware Street. Am I eligible for a permit in my location? No but you can use private property, Haymarket Square, or go through Street Event permit process for a road closure. Should the program area expand, parking on Delaware may become available in the future.

I want to apply for a food truck permit for a retail event in July but I am unsure of the specific date.  Can I apply? The permit request requires the dates and times that you plan to reserve on street parking for a food truck.  You can apply for an anticipated date or you can wait until you have further details.  Keep in mind that the number of total permits that will be approved is limited.

I would like a permit for an extended size food truck. Is that eligible? The pilot program limits reserved parking to two spaces.  Haymarket Square is the City’s outdoor event venue and might better support a large food truck.

How do I know if my business will be along a construction detour route? That will be reviewed by City staff in consideration of your permit request.

I have four adjacent on street parking spaces. Can I get a permit for two food trucks to park there at the same time? Each food truck parking permit only allows for a single food truck adjacent to a local business. This practice complies with Fire Department guidance regarding spacing between food trucks as well.
