In July, the City will be switching to a cart-service pickup. Beginning this week, residents in the City of Leavenworth who are customers of the City’s trash service will receive a postcard informing them of the upcoming change.

Residents may choose their trash pickup preference:

  • To select a 95-gallon trash cart, no action is needed.

  • To select a 65-gallon trash cart, follow the instructions on the post card and select this option on the website.

  • To select continuing your pickup with trash bags and opt out of receiving a trash cart, follow the instructions on the post card and select this option on the website.

The deadline for making a selection is May 31. Selection must be made on the website. If you wish to accept a large trash cart, you do not need to take any action. The new trash carts are very lightweight plastic material with durable wheels that can easily be rolled for curbside trash pickup.

The City heard positive feedback regarding the use of trash carts from our residents and other municipalities. The purpose of making this change was looking forward to a cleaner and more efficient trash collection service. We understand there will be many questions about the change in service. Our staff are here to help, (913) 682-0650.

Those without Internet who wish to opt out or receive a smaller cart can visit the Leavenworth Public Library, 417 Spruce Street.
