City to form Solid Waste Citizens Task Force

Feb. 25, 2022 | Public Information Office

The City of Leavenworth is forming a Solid Waste Citizens Task Force to evaluate options for residential trash pickup.

Brian Faust, Public Works Director, briefed the City Commission on the need to re-evaluate how trash pickup service is completed. Staff leadership and city officials acknowledged that trash pickup remains one of the most popular services. Because the City of Leavenworth conducts its own trash pickup using City staff, this allows flexibility and quality of service. However, it also means that staff spend a lot of extra time picking up large piles of trash left at residential homes. Additionally, struggles with staffing in 2021 led to some delays in trash pickup. The City is interested in ways to improve.

Faust noted to the City Commission that forming a task force helps ensure that possible changes, if any, reflect what residents would like to see in their trash pickup services moving forward.

Applications for Leavenworth City residents interested in serving on this committee can be found on the City website.
