Park History:

The initial purchase of land for Wollman Park occurred in 1922 and the last land purchase occurred in 1998. The park was first named Memorial Park, then Tourist Park, and finally, in 1937, Wollman Park. The Wollman family donated the money to build the swimming pool in 1937. Many of the original park improvements were funded through the Work Progress Administration (WPA). The old pool was removed and an aquatic center was constructed.

A plaque at the park reads: 1937- Erected through the generosity of William J. Wollman, for the benefit and enjoyment of the citizens of Leavenworth, Kansas. In loving memory of his parents, Jonas and Betty Wollman who settled in Leavenworth in 1855.

The park consists of approximately eleven acres of land and two state champion trees.

As part of the Wollman Park improvement project, new play equipment and a new restroom building were installed. A third larger picnic shelter also was constructed, and a monument was erected using stones and plaques from the old bath house.

In 2022, a cornhole court was added.  The court is BYOB (Bring Your Own Bags).  This game has gained great popularity over the last 15 years.  Cornhole is defined as a lawn game in which players toss beanbags toward a slanted platform with the aim of passing the beanbag through a hole in the center of the platform.  The game is also called Bag Toss, Bags, or Soft Horseshoes, depending on the region.
