The City of Leavenworth will celebrate the opening of the new playground equipment at Buffalo Bill Cody Memorial Park 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Shrine Park Road and Limit Street with a free community cook-out.

The event is rain or shine at the park picnic shelter.

The City will cut a ribbon dedicating the new equipment at noon. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served at noon for free to all community members.

The City Commission approved a bid to replace the playground equipment at Cody Park as part of the Capital Improvements Project budget. The project was bid this summer and the Parks and Community Activities Advisory Board and the City Commission agreed upon the bid from J. Oliver Construction, LLC, for the purchase and installation of Henderson playground equipment for $124,500.

The new playground equipment has a wheelchair ramp with guard rails, music and drum game panels, four slides, overhead bars, stepping stones, floating pods, child bucket swings and a generational swing designed for parents to use with their children.
