Four Great Patios in Leavenworth, Kansas

Spring is a season for alfresco dining, and “the First City of Kansas” has plenty of patios ready to host your next meal. Try a few of our local favorites!
While the food at the Suburban (402 S. 20th Street) is the star of your dining experience, its courtyard threatens to steal the show. By day, a shady tree canopy protects diners from the sun as they dig into upscale American fare like bourbon pork chops, honey-drizzled fried chicken, and mac and cheese topped with smoked short rib. At night, soft breezes and strings of patio lights keep things cozy as you sip cocktails crafted at the outdoor bar.
“The little steakhouse across from the Big House,” the Metropolitan (1501 Metropolitan Avenue) offers some intimidating views of the U.S. Penitentiary from its north-facing dining room. You can also choose a table on the restaurant’s south lawn, where porter houses, filets and, of course, KC strips are served on the rear deck. A portion of the space is even screened and covered for your comfort, so no worries about swarms of mosquitos here in the warmer months!
There’s something for everyone on the covered patio at Ross’ 20th Street Bar & Grill (202 N. 20th Street). This “daddy daycare” has plenty of screens for sports, plus a pool table, cushy seating, the occasional band, and food and drink specials galore. Karaoke and “open jam” sessions for musicians also let customers decide their soundtrack for the day.
Toreados (405 Muncie Road) is a popular spot for weekday lunches that call for fresh, fast Mexican dishes on your midday break. When you have time to kick back and stay a while, this eatery’s expansive patio is the perfect place for meeting up with friends to share guacamole, queso and a margarita or two. You can even grab breakfast here for an energizing, outdoorsy start to the day.
