Saturday, Sept. 30

Join us the for the first annual First Nations Cultural Event, brought to you in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Nez Perce Trail Foundation, Haskell Indian Nations University and the Leavenworth Convention & Visitors Bureau!

This event will educate attendees about the historical and contemporary First Nations’ cultures as represented by dancing, drumming, singing, food, and traditional arts. Manny King is the emcee for the powwow-like activities, which will include a Grand Entry with honor guards from both Haskell and Fort Leavenworth. Manny will also educate the public about the different dance styles and regalia as well as drumming and singing, with one lesson beginning at 10 a.m. and a second at 1 p.m.

The event site at Dougherty Park is very near the old train station from which the Nez Perce, along with Chief Joseph and Yellow Wolf, were transported to Oklahoma in 1878. More details coming soon -- watch this space for updates as they arrive!
